Multi-phased construction of hangars, offices and aircraft maintenance workshops.
Ideally located at the heart of Europe, at the EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Fribourg, the maintenance hangar zone is surrounded by 20,000 m² of secure tarmac where the ability to cope with the weight of super-jumbos, including the Airbus A 380, is being developed. 3 bespoke buildings have been constructed since 2008, to meet the needs of the client. A 4th is being studied. The choice of materials was guided by criteria for sustainability and the need for the buildings to adapt to the changing requirements of the company: their modular design enables many of the construction elements to be factory prefabricated, the ease with which the building can adapt to the occupier’s needs whilst in use, plus dismantling that facilitates sorting materials at the end of the building’s life. The hangars comprise a mixed concrete/wood structure (glued laminated beams with a span of almost 90 m) benefitting from this material’s excellent fire resistance.
